HERITAGE & HISTORY

Wong Beranggong Waterfall, affectionately nicknamed the Mini Three Sisters, is one of Sri Aman's most charming hidden gems and a must-visit waterfall adventure in Sarawak's Batang Lupar region. This delightful cascading waterfall features multiple streams of water flowing over a broad, terraced rock face, creating a visual effect reminiscent of the famous Three Sisters Waterfall in the Baram region but in a much more accessible and family-friendly setting. The waterfall is located within the lush jungle interior of the Sri Aman division, one of Sarawak's least-visited districts by international tourists. This is deep Iban country, the heartland of Sarawak's largest indigenous group, and the surrounding area is rich with longhouse communities, pepper gardens, and rubber plantations. Getting to Wong Beranggong involves a relatively easy 20-30 minute hike from the nearest road access point, making it achievable for families with children and casual hikers. The waterfall drops approximately 10 metres across a wide rock face with three to four distinct water channels -- hence the Three Sisters comparison. The base pool is shallow and safe for wading, though deeper sections near the main cascade offer refreshing swimming. The rock face itself is photogenic and covered in green moss, and many visitors enjoy posing on the flat rocks for photos. The surrounding forest is alive with birdsong, and the air is significantly cooler than in town. Sri Aman is approximately 190 km from Kuching, about a 2.5-hour drive. The town itself is historically significant as the site of the former colonial Fort Alice. Combine your waterfall visit with a trip to a local Iban longhouse and the vibrant Sri Aman town market. Bring water, snacks, insect repellent, and swimwear. Wong Beranggong Waterfall is proof that Sarawak's natural beauty extends well beyond the popular Kuching corridor.
