THE NARRATIVE

An old bazaar being transformed into a Siniawan-style heritage night market. Still emerging but already showing great promise with traditional food stalls and that authentic small-town Sarawak atmosphere.

HERITAGE & HISTORY

Baki Bazaar Night Market is one of Sarawak's most exciting emerging hidden gems, a must-watch food destination in the Serian district that is rapidly evolving into the next Siniawan-style heritage night market experience. Located in the historic Baki area of Serian, this old bazaar is being revitalised by local entrepreneurs and community leaders who recognised the potential to recreate the magic of Siniawan's wildly successful night market formula in their own backyard. The concept is simple but powerful: take an existing row of charming old shophouses, string up atmospheric lighting, invite local food vendors to set up stalls, and let the community gather for an evening of food, conversation, and heritage appreciation. Baki Bazaar has all the right ingredients -- the old timber and brick shopfronts have genuine character, the surrounding Bidayuh and Iban communities bring authentic culinary traditions, and the relaxed small-town atmosphere creates the kind of unhurried evening that city dwellers crave. While still growing and not yet operating as frequently or as extensively as Siniawan, the Baki Bazaar nights that do happen are genuinely special. You will find vendors selling traditional Sarawak barbecue, jungle vegetable dishes, fresh sugarcane juice, local pastries, and seasonal specialties. The crowd is almost entirely local, which means the food is authentic and the prices are incredibly reasonable. This is ground-floor tourism -- you are discovering it before it becomes famous. Baki is located within Serian town, about 65 km from Kuching. Check local social media pages for event dates as the night market schedule is not yet fixed. When it does operate, it typically runs from late afternoon until around 9 PM. Bring cash, an appetite, and the satisfaction of knowing you are supporting a grassroots community initiative. Baki Bazaar represents the future of heritage food tourism in Sarawak.
