HERITAGE & HISTORY
Three Sisters Waterfall near Long San is one of Sarawak's most legendary hidden gems and a must-visit destination for hardcore adventurers seeking one of Borneo's most dramatic natural spectacles. Located deep in the Baram interior of northern Sarawak, this extraordinary triple waterfall features three parallel cascades plunging over 60 metres down a massive cliff face into the jungle canopy below. The sight of three thundering white ribbons of water side by side, framed by virgin rainforest, is one of the most awe-inspiring natural wonders in all of Southeast Asia. Reaching Three Sisters Waterfall is a serious undertaking. From Miri, you must first travel by 4WD to Long San, a remote Kenyah community deep in the Baram watershed. This journey alone can take an entire day depending on road conditions. From Long San, the trek to the waterfall takes 4-6 hours through challenging terrain -- river crossings, steep ridges, and dense jungle with no marked trail. A local Kenyah guide is absolutely essential, not just for navigation but for safety in this genuinely wild environment. The Kenyah people of the Baram are legendary for their artistic traditions, warrior history, and deep connection to the forest. Your guide will likely share traditional ecological knowledge along the way, pointing out medicinal plants, animal tracks, and the subtle signs of the forest that outsiders would never notice. The trek itself passes through primary lowland and hill dipterocarp forest that is among the most biodiverse on Earth. This is not a day trip or a casual hike. Most visitors camp overnight near the waterfall base. Bring full trekking equipment including hammock or tent, water purification, food supplies, rain gear, and first aid. The reward is one of the most powerful wilderness experiences available in Sarawak -- standing at the base of three massive waterfalls in a jungle that has been largely unchanged for millions of years.
