History & Heritage
The Fairy Cave (Gua Peri-Peri) gets its name from a stalagmite formation at the entrance that is said to resemble the Chinese Goddess of Mercy, Guanyin. For generations, the local Chinese and Bidayuh communities have regarded the cave as a sacred site, often coming here to offer prayers. During the Japanese Occupation in WWII, the cave also served as a shelter for locals.
