Pueh Beach lies along the western Sarawak coast in the vicinity of Mount Pueh, one of the tallest mountains in the Kuching Division at 1,551 metres. Mount Pueh is a granite pluton -- a massive dome of igneous rock that was pushed up through the surrounding sedimentary formations millions of years ago. The weathering of this granite over geological time has contributed to the fine sand that characterises the beaches along this section of coast. The mountain itself is an important biodiversity hotspot, home to rare pitcher plants, orchids, and montane species found nowhere else in Borneo. The area around Pueh Beach is sparsely populated, with small Malay and Bidayuh villages scattered through the coastal lowlands and foothill areas. These communities have maintained a subsistence lifestyle based on fishing, smallholder agriculture, and forest product collection for generations. The beach has never been developed for tourism, and access roads are basic, which has preserved its wild, undiscovered character. This is truly one of the last secret beaches in Sarawak.
