About the Place

Sarawak's oldest national park is a wonderland of biodiversity. From the iconic sea stacks to proboscis monkeys and bearded pigs, Bako offers a condensed experience of Borneo's wild beauty.

History & Heritage

Gazetted in 1957, Bako is Sarawak's oldest national park. Despite its relatively small size, it contains almost every type of vegetation found in Borneo. It has been a protected area for decades, allowing its unique wildlife, including the endemic proboscis monkeys, to thrive. The park's geology is also significant, with sandstone cliffs that have been eroded over millions of years to create iconic sea stacks.
