About the Place
A mesmerizing man-made lake formed from an old gold mine. The water's striking blue hue creates a surreal contrast with the surrounding lush greenery. Perfect for boating, photos, and a peaceful escape.
History & Heritage
Tasik Biru, or Blue Lake, is a legacy of Bau's gold mining era. Originally an open-cast gold mine operated by the Borneo Company Limited from 1898 to 1921, the pit eventually filled with rainwater. The unique blue color is attributed to the reflection of the sky and the depth of the water, though local legends also speak of arsenic content from the mining activities (swimming is generally not advised, but boating is popular).
